Monthly Memo: November

Monthly Memo: November

Hello Friends!  I can not believe it’s almost Thanksgiving already!  This November went by way quicker than I wanted it to.  Work has been crazy and will only get crazier until the end of the year (gotta love all those holiday parties!), and I just finished my writing class, which I loved!  The creative non-fiction class was through Gotham Writers, which is a writing school based in New York that also offers classes online.  Obviously, I went the online route, which…

Fall in Chicago: A Bucket List

Fall in Chicago: A Bucket List

Call me cliche, but I love Fall in Chicago.  This season is amazing everywhere, but I think this city, and the surrounding area, does it best.  From the Fests, to the leaves changing in our many beautiful parks to the apple and pumpkin picking in the nearby suburbs, Chicago has everything you could want for your Fall bucket list.  Last weekend, we went apple picking with my family in Wisconsin and it made me think of all the other Fall…

Top Five Friday #22

Top Five Friday #22

Favorite Chicago Coffee Shops Chicago is full of unique and wonderful spots to get your caffeine fix.  Through my nearly ten years of living in this beautiful city, I’ve amassed a list of favorites in most categories and favorite Chicago coffee shops is no exception.  While I’ve never met a coffee shop that I’ve disliked, there are five that stand out to me as the cream of the crop (in my humble opinion),  From their atmosphere, to their pastries and…

Logan Square Farmers Market

Logan Square Farmers Market

Mike and I have a new obsession in our neighborhood: The Logan Square Farmers Market.  We’ve been taking the fifteen minute walk from our apartment to the market for the past few weekends to do some grocery shopping and marvel over all the delicious goods.  It’s a wonderland of organic fruits and vegetables, homemade cheeses, candles, and honey, fresh baked breads and pastries, and the prettiest fresh flowers you’ve ever seen. We’ve been setting a budget of $20 and seeing…

Weekend Getaway Essentials

Weekend Getaway Essentials

This summer has consisted of multiple weekend excursions that I’ve had to pack quickly and rush off to.  From a quick trip up to our lake house in Wisconsin to a last minute trip to St. Louis, I’ve had to throw things together and go a couple of times.  Now, I’m not complaining, I think better when there’s a time limit and pack minimally when I can only bring a small duffle bag.  The preparation for the trips I’ve had…

Favorite Travel Memories This year my travel plans are lacking, because, well… because of a multitude of reasons.  Mostly budgetary, but also because I started a new job with an unpredictable schedule and no vacation days quite yet.  This has me looking to past trips and trying to live vicariously through travel memories.  Appreciating all the places you’ve been is a huge part of travel, and I don’t think we do it enough.  We, the collective we as travelers, seem…

27 in 27: Halfway Point

27 in 27: Halfway Point

It’s official.  The move is over, the wedding is over, we are unpacked and comfy in our new home, and I can finally get back to business.  We love the new apartment and our new neighborhood! We moved from West Town up to Logan Square and I think it suits us.  The 606 (Chicago’s answer to the High Line in New York) is a couple blocks South of us and we are so close to so many fantastic restaurants and…

Neighborhood Spotlight: Chinatown

Neighborhood Spotlight: Chinatown

This past weekend, Mike and I hitched a ride over to Chinatown to get a little color in this dreary Chicago January. We took an Uber there, but it is also easily accessible by the Red Line Cermak-Chinatown stop. Both of us hadn’t visited this area since college, so it’s been quite a few years. Though the sky was cloudy, it wasn’t too cold out and there were plenty of other people milling about, so we were in good company….

Monthly Memo: January

Monthly Memo: January

Happy Sunday! Things have finally started to slow down from the holidays, which I am so grateful for.  Life has been really hectic lately, so I’m happy to have a chance to relax and catch up on some things.  Today in particular is shaping up to be a treat yo self day (I know I am way behind on this, but I have been binge-ing Parks and Recreation lately and I am obsessed).  I plan on: Reorganizing my closet Doing…

A Weekend in Milwaukee, WI

A Weekend in Milwaukee, WI

Our first stop in Milwaukee, WI was the Art Museum, housed in the iconic, postmodern building right on Lake Michigan.  The fee to get into the museum is a little steep, at $17/person, but it’s also pretty worth it.  The entryway is beautiful, with a view of the lake through a convex wall of windows. The best part for me was the collection of contemporary art and the special exhibit of Rembrandts on the top floor.  The museum was having…
